For a better understanding, here is the Rhapsody’s glossay:

  • Contractor: A person who uses Rhapsody Studio. They hire Musicians to play in their work sessions.
  • Musician: A person who plays an Instrument and is intended to be hired by Contractors to play on a Work Session.
  • Instrument Family: is a grouping of several different but related sizes or types of Instruments. ( Bowed strings, Woodwind, brass, percussion, keyboard,guitar (Naxos system )
  • Instrument: An object for producing musical sounds used by Musicians.
  • Instrument Section: is a group of instruments that define the structure of the Studio Session. i.e…. double basses, violins, percussion.. etc…..
  • Roster: is a document that describes the structure of the Work Session’s Hired Musicians . More precisely, the name of every Hired Musician classified by Instrument Sections and Families.
  • Work Session: encompasses 1 or more engagement(s) ( i.e. Rehearsals, Recording Sessions, Concerts… etc ) where Musicians come to play their Instruments. It resides within a larger project. A Report Form is generated at the end of the session.
  • Work Session Type: is a normalized category of Work Session defined by the AFM (American Federation of Musicians).
  • Report Form: is a formatted document that summarizes the nature and the content of the Studio Session. This form is generally transmitted to a Payroll company in order to have Musicians paid. It can follow a Work Session Type.
  • Payroll: is an entity that pays Musicians after a Studio Session.
  • Company: Since a Contractor is a professional, the Company describes their legal entity.
  • Studios/ Venues): Is the location where Musicians come to play on a Work Session
  • Customer: describes the person/company/ organization the Contractor works for.
  • Project: is a group of Work Sessions linked together around a subject and a single Customer. i.e… a tv show season, multiple recording dates for a feature film, or an orchestra season. This organizes your Work sessions!
  • Hiring Request: is a job proposal for a Musician to come play their Instrument on a Work Session. Musicians can accept, decline or hold it.
  • Engagement: is a single date and location Musicians are invited to play within a Work Session. I.e. rehearsals, single sessions, etc
  • Tune: is a piece of music that Musicians record within a Work Session.
  • Event: is a status update concerning an Hiring Request.
  • Status: describes the state of a Hiring Request. We defined 7 different statuses describing the lifecycle of a Hiring Request. Ready, Invited, Accepted, On Hold, Declined, Reminded and Cancelled
